Blepharoplasty Portland Oregon – Top Eyelid Surgery Procedures

Cosmetic eyelid surgery also called blepharoplasty can be performed on just the upper eyelids, just the lower lids or both when necessary. The primary goal for upper eyelid surgery is to remove the excess skin that is touching the lashes creating the “tired look”. A small amount of fat may also be removed to rejuvenate the eyelids. The incision is located directly in the upper eyelid crease and the sutures used are dissolvable.

Blepharoplasty or cosmetic lower eyelid surgery involves a conservative removal of fatty deposits in the lower lids that create the “puffiness look”. The fat is removed through a trans-conjunctival approach on the inside of the eyelid. When there is also excess skin present, a small incision is placed directly at the lash line on the outside of the eyelid and a pinch technique of excess skin is removed. This incision is closed with Histocryl tissue adhesive. Patients can anticipate approximately 2 weeks of visible bruising and swelling after a blepharoplasty procedure.

A top blepharoplasty surgeon, Dr. Portuese performs eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty consultations to determine whether or not a patient is a candidate for the blepharoplasty procedure and to discuss which options are best suited for the best possible outcome. Consultations last approximately 30 minutes with Dr. Portuese and approximately 30 minutes with the patient care coordinator for additional questions, fees and scheduling.

Eyelid Rejuvenation

The blepharoplasty procedure is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient surgical procedure in our Medicare certified ambulatory surgery center in Portland Oregon. Our on-site facility allows for comfort, safety and privacy. The surgery itself takes approximately an hour to perform under general anesthesia administered by a top board-certified physician anesthesiologist. After blepharoplasty patients wake up in the recovery room for approximately one hour and are then discharged to home with a responsible caretaker. Additional appointments are scheduled with Dr. Portuese at one week, one month and 3 months post op. Blepharoplasty Portland can be performed alone, or in conjunction with additional cosmetic surgery such as a Facelift or Rhinoplasty Surgery.
